YOUR TREATMENT GUIDE

What is pulpotomy?

Pulpotomy removes affected pulp from part or all of the tooth’s crown. Suitable living root pulp is retained, protected with biomaterial and sealed beneath a restoration.

When is it considered?

  • Deep decay or an injury has affected the crown pulp.
  • The remaining living tissue may be preserved and bleeding can be controlled.
  • The permanent tooth can be restored and monitored.

What is the aim?

Preserve suitable living root pulp. The choice follows an individual assessment.

Inside the treatment

Pulpotomy for Permanent Teeth · illustrated steps

Follow the main stages, then open the labelled tooth sections to see what changes inside.

01 · Assess and isolate the tooth

We assess the pulp and isolate the tooth. The extent of affected crown tissue helps guide the planned treatment.

02 · Treat and protect the remaining pulp

Affected crown pulp is removed. After suitable bleeding control, a biomaterial protects the remaining living tissue.

03 · Seal the tooth and monitor healing

A suitable restoration seals the tooth. Reviews assess symptoms, clinical findings and healing.

The section illustrates full crown pulpotomy. Partial pulpotomy removes less crown pulp; neither is the same as cleaning and filling the entire root canal system.

Benefits & considerations

Potential benefit

Preserve suitable living root pulp

It may retain living tissue in selected young or mature permanent teeth.

What to consider

Suitability & follow-up

Case selection matters. Pulp preservation requires suitable living tissue. Pulpectomy here refers to baby teeth; the final column refers to permanent teeth. These are not interchangeable choices. Examination, X-rays and findings during treatment guide the plan. Retained pulp still needs to heal successfully.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR CHOICES

Choosing the right treatment

What is the difference between partial and full pulpotomy?

Partial pulpotomy removes a smaller portion of crown pulp. Full pulpotomy removes all crown pulp while aiming to preserve suitable living root pulp. Tissue findings guide the extent.

How is it different from a filling or pulp capping?

A Dental Filling repairs the cavity. Direct Pulp Capping protects an exposure without planned crown-pulp removal. Pulpotomy deliberately removes affected crown pulp before protection and restoration.

Why consider it before root canal treatment?

In an appropriate living tooth, preserving root pulp may be a reasonable option. Root Canal Treatment is considered when preservation is unsuitable. These are choices based on diagnosis, rather than substitutes for every tooth.

Frequently asked questions

Is pulpotomy only for baby teeth?

No. Selected permanent teeth in adults and younger patients may also be suitable. Baby-tooth treatment has different considerations.

Can a painful adult tooth sometimes have pulpotomy?

Yes, in selected cases after assessment. Pain alone does not decide suitability; tissue findings, bleeding control and the condition around the root also matter.

Is pulpotomy the same as root canal treatment?

No. Pulpotomy aims to preserve suitable root pulp. Root Canal Treatment removes pulp and cleans and fills the canal system.

Will I need partial or full pulpotomy?

We explain the likely approach beforehand, but the extent may change after the pulp is exposed and assessed.

What material is placed over the pulp?

A suitable biocompatible material is used, commonly a calcium-silicate cement. Selection considers the tooth and the risk of staining, among other factors.

Will the tooth still need a filling or crown?

Yes, it needs a reliable final restoration. Whether a Dental Filling or Dental Crowns & Dental Bridges restoration is appropriate depends on the remaining tooth structure and bite.

When would pulpotomy be unsuitable?

Dead pulp, uncontrolled bleeding or signs of infection around the root can make preservation unsuitable. We discuss the findings and alternatives.

Can I still need root canal treatment later?

Yes. No procedure can promise lifetime success. Root Canal Treatment may be needed if the retained pulp does not heal or later develops disease.

How do you assess my tooth’s pulp health?

We assess your symptoms, examine the tooth and use appropriate tests and X-rays. Tissue appearance and bleeding control during treatment help guide the decision.

How much does pulpotomy cost in Mymensingh?

We provide a treatment-specific estimate after examination. The tooth, procedure, restoration and follow-up needs affect the plan.
