Ceramic Veneer: what to know

A custom ceramic facing changes the front appearance of a tooth. It may require enamel preparation and usually cannot simply be reversed afterwards.

When might it be needed?

Selected shape, colour or small surface defects after controlling decay and gum disease.

The choice follows an examination. Symptoms alone cannot identify the right treatment.

Inside the treatment

Ceramic Veneer · illustrated steps

See the main stages of care. Illustrations explain the approach; your treatment is planned after an individual assessment.

The main treatment stages

01 · Plan and prepare as needed

The dentist assesses tooth health, bite and the desired shape and discusses any irreversible preparation.

02 · Try in the custom veneer

An impression or scan supports fabrication. Fit, appearance and bite are evaluated before bonding.

03 · Bond and review

The thin ceramic veneer is bonded to the front surface, finished and checked for fit and function.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Is ceramic always better than composite?

No. Appearance, enamel, bite, repair needs and budget affect the choice.

Can veneers fix severe crowding?

They do not move tooth roots. Braces & Orthodontics may be more appropriate for alignment problems.

Will the tooth need preparation?

Usually some enamel preparation is needed. The amount depends on tooth position and the planned result; discuss this before deciding.

Is a ceramic veneer reversible?

Preparation is generally irreversible. Veneers can later need repair or replacement, so consider alternatives first.

How many appointments are needed?

Assessment, planning, preparation, laboratory work and bonding may require separate visits. The exact sequence depends on the case.

Can whitening replace veneers?

Whitening may suit a colour concern, but it does not change tooth shape. We compare it with bonding or orthodontics when appropriate.

Can ceramic veneers chip?

Yes. Biting hard objects, grinding and an unfavourable bite can damage them. Maintenance and review remain important.

How much do ceramic veneers cost?

The estimate depends on the number of teeth, ceramic and laboratory work, preparation and any care needed before bonding.
